Event Organizer Shares Feedback On Receiving Speaker Proposals Through The SpeakerMatch Job Board

About This Interview Series
Many of the speakers in our community have expressed interest in learning more about the speaker selection process. These exit interviews will share feedback and insights from meeting planners utilizing The SpeakerMatch Job Board. Enjoy!

Q1: Overall, how was your experience utilizing the SpeakerMatch Job Board to find a speaker?

A: This worked out great for me. I have tried using other resources in the past and did not have the variety to review. It was easy for me to review each speaker.

Q2: How was the quality of the applicants who applied to your listing? Overall, did you feel the applicants met the criteria you outlined in your listing?

A: I was very pleased with the quality and the responses to my criteria. We had over 88 respond and at least 20 were right on with their response.

Q3: Of the applications you received, what kinds of things in the teaser/headline of the application drove you to want to open the full letter of application? What kinds of things in the teaser/headline of the application made you skip over reading a full letter of application?

A: Well, I did like those that had a video and had taken the time to aim their response at my request, rather than just cut/paste what they always have done. I wanted to know how they were responding to my request, even if the video was of a previous session, how will they target my audience.

Q4: Of the applications you received, what kinds of things in the letter of application stood out in a positive way? In a negative way?

A: Aiming their response directly to me, showing that they knew who my company was and how their particular expertise would fit my needs. Those that used a short video to talk to me, but did not have substance regarding my criteria was a real negative. Having a video was a positive if they chose well so that I knew they could address my audience. Having a video that addressed an audience that would not relate to my group showed to me that they didn’t try to find out about my industry.

Q5: Would you use SpeakerMatch again to help you find a speaker?

A: Yes. I found the system to be very user friendly for me as a meeting coordinator! I was able to present to our CEO two qualified speakers for a final interview, he was able to determine that we were presenting him with very good candidates who would do a good job for our meeting.

In August 2013, Charles posted an open call for speakers on the SpeakerMatch Job Board.
