Exit Interview With Michele Brassard

Event Organizer Shares Feedback On Receiving Speaker Proposals Through The SpeakerMatch Job Board

About This Interview Series
Many of the speakers in our community have expressed interest in learning more about the speaker selection process. These exit interviews will share feedback and insights from meeting planners utilizing The SpeakerMatch Job Board. Enjoy!

Q1: Overall, how was your experience utilizing the SpeakerMatch Job Board to find a speaker?

A: Very good.

Q2: How was the quality of the applicants who applied to your listing? Overall, did you feel the applicants met the criteria you outlined in your listing?

A: 1) The quality was good, the speakers were well versed in their niche topics. 2) Yes and no- they were attempting to adapt their prepared formats to our needs- we found the need to eliminate those with who had no experience to draw from to fill our needs.

Q3: Of the applications you received, what kinds of things in the teaser/headline of the application drove you to want to open the full letter of application? What kinds of things in the teaser/headline of the application made you skip over reading a full letter of application?

A: 1) Timely and relevant response with personal approach to our organization. 2) Not enough effort made to review our needs and reply- a one size fits all approach was not enough.

Q4: Of the applications you received, what kinds of things in the letter of application stood out in a positive way? In a negative way?

A: The speaker had researched our association and specifically pointed to shared goals and had experience in real estate. In a negative way? One line replies in their emails with no attempt made to appeal to our unique needs as outlined in the call for speakers.

Q5: Would you use SpeakerMatch again to help you find a speaker?

A: Yes, absolutely. The service was great- the speakers could hone their approach with more research of the group looking to hire them.

In December 2015, this organizer posted an open call for speakers on the SpeakerMatch Job Board for a September 2016 speaking engagement.
