Exit Interview With Chelsea Elliott

Event Organizer Shares Feedback On Receiving Speaker Proposals Through The SpeakerMatch Job Board

About This Interview Series
Many of the speakers in our community have expressed interest in learning more about the speaker selection process. These exit interviews will share feedback and insights from meeting planners utilizing The SpeakerMatch Job Board. Enjoy!

Q1: Overall, how was your experience utilizing the SpeakerMatch Job Board to find a speaker?

A: My experience with using SpeakerMatch was excellent. All I had to do was post what I was interested in for a speaker and there they all came! I've used the service multiple times now.

Q2: How was the quality of the applicants who applied to your listing? Overall, did you feel the applicants met the criteria you outlined in your listing?

A: I feel that some of the applicants didn't fit my criteria. They were more of a corporate speaker than a youth speaker. We had to watch videos to realize this. We didn't want a speaker to come in and use words that we didn't even understand let alone the youth. Then there were some we liked and had to decide based on who we liked best and who we could afford.

Q3: Of the applications you received, what kinds of things in the teaser/headline of the application drove you to want to open the full letter of application? What kinds of things in the teaser/headline of the application made you skip over reading a full letter of application?

A: What drew me into wanting to look more at the presenter is if they were youth oriented right away and if they included their cost. If they were just writing exactly what their application teaser said then it was pretty boring.

Q4: Of the applications you received, what kinds of things in the letter of application stood out in a positive way? In a negative way?

A: If they were youth oriented then it stood out in a positive way and if they could get the youth to interact with them. If they were a speaker who just spoke to the kids with no participation, I was not interested.

Q5: Would you use SpeakerMatch again to help you find a speaker?

A: ABSOLUTELY! We hold our youth conference annually so I will be searching for another speaker next year at this time and possibly for other smaller events!

In October, 2017, this organizer posted an open call for speakers on the SpeakerMatch Job Board.
