On a windswept January afternoon in 1969, The Beatles convened on the roof of their Apple office to record a handful of tunes for their newest project, designed to showcase them as performers back before the days of studio production. Designed by Paul McCartney as an opportunity to reclaim their old mojo, the project underwent a series of transformations from a TV spectacular to a concert abroad to finally, a feature film, 1970's Let It Be. The end product had the unfortunate timing to coincide with their announced split as it was released, branding it a "break up" film. But as the world now knows through Peter Jackson's 2021 re-telling, it was far more complicated then that...and his version wasn't exactly truthful either.
This presentation examines the roots of the project, where it expected to go and where it ended up, as well as the mythology attached to it that to this day makes The Beatles' most documented project also their most difficult to understand.
