The Stress Reset

What a rubber band, an orange, and a balloon can teach us about stress.

Stress isn't always caused by having too much to do. Sometimes it's caused by the way we're doing it, the environment we're doing it in, or the growing distance between what matters to us and how we're actually spending our time.

The Stress Reset takes a practical, interactive look at what creates stress at work and in everyday life—and what we can realistically do about it.

Using stories, humor, audience participation, and three surprisingly useful objects—a rubber band, an orange, and a balloo

  • Dan explores some of the common patterns that allow everyday pressure to become chronic stress.

One of those patterns is values out of sync: the friction that develops when what we're doing, what others expect from us, and what we believe matters most begin pulling in different directions. Add unclear expectations, difficult relationships, constant change, lack of control, competing priorities, and the ordinary pressures of life outside work, and it's easy to understand why simply telling people to “relax” doesn't accomplish very much.

Rather than promising a stress-free life, Dan helps participants recognize where their own pressure is coming from, distinguish what they can influence from what they can't, and identify practical changes that can make work—and life—more manageable.

And the rubber band, orange, and balloon? Participants discover what those have to do with stress along the way.

Audiences leave with a simple framework for recognizing stress earlier, thinking differently about its causes, and making practical choices that can help restore perspective, energy, and a greater sense of control.

The Stress Reset can be delivered as a keynote, conference program, interactive workshop, or facilitated session and tailored to the particular pressures facing the audience or organization.
