My wife Sarah and I are both ScreenStrong Ambassadors. We joined the ambassador program because we saw the problem in our very own home.
The Problem:
- Teenagers spend an average of 9 hours a day on a screen
- 1:8 gamers are addicted to their screen
- 1:5 teens are recognized as having poor mental health
The benefits of childhood screen use do not outweigh the costs. The physical, mental, social, and emotional lives of young people are being negatively affected. Children are becoming prematurely exposed to adult temptations and content through devices they have in their pockets. Parents want to help their kids but feel uninformed, overwhelmed, and often defeated.
The Effects of Screen Overuse:
ON CHILDREN
- Long-term Mental, Emotional, and Physical Health Challenges
- Poor Academics & Less Empathy
- Failure to Develop Life Skills
ON FAMILY
- Detachment and Strained Family Relationships
- Parental Stress and Conflict
- Failure to Launch
ON SOCIETY
- Increased Sextortion and Child Trafficking
- Decline in Social Cohesion
- Reduced Workforce Productivity
