The Communication Gap

The Communication Gap

When What You Say Isn't What They Hear

Program
You said exactly what you meant. They heard something completely different. Now what? Most communication training focuses on choosing better words. But words do not travel directly from one person’s brain to another. They pass through emotions, assumptions, past experiences, personal definitions, and whatever else happens to be going on at that moment. The Communication Gap is a high-energy, interactive experience that explores why good intentions still produce misunderstandings and why fixing the connection is often more important than fixing the words. Participants explore how to: • Recognize the filters and internal stories shaping every conversation • Identify when the same words carry very different meanings • Ask better questions instead of relying on assumptions • Choose the right communication approach for the person and situation • Repair connection when a conversation begins to fall apart This is not a lecture about using the perfect script. Through humor, relatable stories, word games, partner activities, and real-life scenarios, participants experience communication breakdowns as they happen. They discover how quickly meaning can change, how easily assumptions take over, and what they can do differently. Participants leave with practical tools to reduce misunderstandings, strengthen workplace relationships, handle difficult conversations, and communicate with greater clarity and intention. Because better communication does not start with talking louder. It starts with understanding what is happening between the people. The Communication Gap can be delivered as a one-hour presentation, a half-day experience, or a full-day experience.

Helping Leaders Navigate the Messy Human Side of Leadership

Leadership is easy...until people get involved! People make things “interesting.” We bring emotions, miscommunications, conflicting priorities, different perspectives, and a whole lot of other messy stuff. So how do we get things done when policies and technology collide with the realities of actual human beings? That’s where I come in. Through high-energy keynotes and interactive experiences, I help leaders understand people, communicate clearly, and navigate the messy human realities no manual prepared them for. Using humor, real stories, and practical tools, we turn the absurdities of this mess we call life into insights that change how people lead, communicate, and connect.
