Behind every major innovation, cultural shift, and discovery, stood one (or more) persons willing to embrace the wild idea of Possibility. The idea that what is not currently true, real, or done – can be.
As a CEO and executive coach specializing in challenging the status quo, I know all too well the arguments against possibility. Without the thought of possibility, we can safely live firmly in the “what is now, and what has always been,” which is safe but also boring and without forward movement.
I am faced constantly with problems that seem impossible to solve, heights that seem impossible to reach. I’m continuously told that my big ideas are too big, and my wild heart needs to just fit in this box. “Sit down, be quiet, be seen and not heard.”
As I've climbed the corporate ladder, taken the risks, learned the lessons, and celebrated the achievements, I never had the language for why that box was suffocating me. Until a few years ago, I picked up my roller skates again for the first time in 20 years. Through hours of practice and growth, I learned more about myself and possibility than any training course had ever taught me. Through my wheels and my heart, I began to honor my belief in possibility as a strength and not simple naivete. My ability to believe in possibility opened doors for me.
In this 60 min talk, I share the lessons of possibility through storytelling and roller-dance. Using skate choreography to demonstrate the lessons real time in front of the audience, I weave together a story of courage, community and sisterhood, and care in both the workplace and the rink - showing that, in the end, the lessons of risk-taking, vulnerability, and self-reflection apply wherever we are. The magic of possibility is that it lies within us, if only we choose to reach for it.
Note: This talk *can* be done without skates, however it is more engaging/memorable with the choreography. A clean, hard floor is required for the skating element, and I have business liability insurance that can be provided to the venue upon request.
