A Well-Worn Life

A Well-Worn Life

What Our Scars Know About Resilience

Keynote
Program
Every scar has a date. A story. A before and an after. In this talk, Lea Appleton shares her own chronology of scars—cancer, divorce, miscarriage, mastectomy, knee surgeries, hip replacement, osteoporosis, c-section for twins, a career made from scratch—not as a catalogue of suffering but as a map of a life fully lived. This is not a resilience talk about bouncing back. And it is not about being better than before because sometimes the scar still hurts, still limits, still changes what is possible in the body. A well-worn life makes room for all of it: the scars we have made peace with and the ones we are still arguing with. Healing that is quiet, unglamorous, ongoing is one of the most underrated forms of courage there is. This talk names it out loud. Best for: Women's associations, healthcare and wellness audiences, higher education, HR and people operations. Available in 30, 45, and 60-minute formats.
